The regeneration of Cavendish Square was full of promise. The council told us that it would ‘return Cavendish Square to its former glory’. After consultation with the local community it was agreed that the new square would have a glass roof over it and it would be locked at night. Despite the fact that the roof was never built no drainage was put into the square as a result of which the square floods when there is heavy rain. The fence around the car park on the Whitbourne avenue side has partly disintegrated and the lighting is inadequate for making the square safe at night. Local organisations are demanding that the council takes responsibility for resolving these problems. See the leaflet here for further explanation.
